About halfway up or down the Oregon coast, depending on which direction your headed, is Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, the location of the beautiful Heceta Head Lighthouse. The pull-off for the State Scenic Viewpoint is rather small and winds underneath Highway 101 before ending in a medium-sized parking lot. From the parking lot stretches a sandy beach that is tucked into a bit of an alcove. At low tide, visitors can walk along the beach and explore the tide pools and the rocky coast.

To the right of the beach, upon a large head of rocky coast stands Heceta Head Lighthouse. Visitors can walk from the parking lot up the backside of the rocky shore, passing the old lighthouse keeper’s dwelling, which is now a bed and breakfast, and arrive next to the lighthouse. From the top of Heceta Head, visitors can get sweeping views of the Oregon coast and the Pacific Ocean, along with an up-close view of the lighthouse itself. Heceta Head Lighthouse is a lovely short white tower with large-paned windows surrounding the light and capped by a red roof. The aesthetically-pleasing lighthouse is made more charming by its beautiful location.

Heceta Head Lighthouse is one of the most scenic stops along the Oregon coast. We highly recommend a stop at this state park and accompanying lighthouse.
