Lilly Pad Hopyard Brewery is located right next to the Lilly Bluff area of Obed Wild and Scenic River, a national park site about an hour west of Knoxville, Tennessee. Obed Wild and Scenic River is in a remote area, so Lilly Pad is, too. Just before entering Obed Wild and Scenic River, a sign and small gravel road alerts visitors to the brewery. The road winds through the woods to a small, rustic structure that serves as the brewery and tasting room. In addition to the main buildings, Lilly Pad also has a large outdoor seating area, a farm with ingredients used in the beer, an outhouse building with an eco-friendly roof full of plants, and a campground.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we were only able to buy cans of beer to drink on premise when we visited, rather than drinking beer from the tap. However, we were still able to try several of Lilly Pad’s beers. Most of the beers were brewed to style, including those we tried–a pilsner, a Mexican lager, a wheat ale, and a blonde ale. We enjoyed all of our beers, as well as sipping them on a patio in the shade of some trees. Although we didn’t have any during our visit, Lilly Pad offers vegetarian and pulled pork tacos at their small restaurant, the Sauced Frog. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Lilly Pad Hopyard Brewery, especially after a nice hike at Obed Wild and Scenic River.
