Fritanga is a delicious St. Louis restaurant serving Nicaraguan cuisine. The restaurant is located along Jefferson Avenue in a beautiful old two-story brick building with accompanying large windows and painted wood trim. Inside, the restaurant is spread across two large rooms with simple tables and chairs, but with elegant touches, such as the white linen tablecloths. Nice plants fill the windows and are scattered around the restaurant. Large pieces of colorful Latin and South American art hang on the walls. They add a nice pop of color and are both bold and beautiful.

Fritanga’s menu has several appetizers and even more entrees, all featuring traditional Nicaraguan food. The appetizers offer a nice variety of different dishes and at a good price, so it’s easy to try several types of food. The entrees often feature a type of meat with flavorful sauces and vegetables or grains. The entrees also come with sides, which feature beans, rice, plantains, or cassava root. We tried a side of empanadas and the carne asada (the national dish of Nicaragua), along with sides of the maduros and the tostones. The flavors of each dish were rich and powerful, but blended so nicely together. The carne asada nearly melted in your mouth, and the empanadas came with three lovely sauces. Each bite was absolutely delicious.

We found Fritanga to be a hidden gem in St. Louis. The food was amazing and the atmosphere and people were great. Overall, our visit to Fritanga was an enjoyable experience. We highly recommend checking it out.
