As part of the East End Transformation project at Washington University in St. Louis, the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum on WashU’s campus was recently renovated and expanded on. The museum’s reopening featured artist Ai WeiWei, and even included the opportunity to hear Ai WeiWei speak. Although Ai WeiWei just closed, several new exhibits will be opening at the beginning of February. Besides the special exhibit, the top floor of the museum also has a small permanent collection. The art museum also offers tours, lectures, and films for visitors to engage further with the art and learn more about the historical and cultural context of the pieces. When we visited we were at the museum for about an hour, making for a nice relaxed afternoon exploring the art. The museum is open every day, but Tuesday, and is free to the public. On the weekend the parking garage is also free, making it a great free activity. After visitors go to the museum they can explore the newly finished East End project that leads into Forest Park or wander throughout campus where there are a variety of sculptures. We both enjoyed visiting the small museum and the variety of artwork.

Thanks Margaret, good information. I’ll be sure to check it out.
