Washington Wine Week – Day 1

We have had the opportunity to explore several different wine regions: Tuscany, Missouri Weinstraße, Georgia Mountains, Napa, Finger Lakes, and the Yakima Valley. Most recently, due to our move to the PNW, we have been able to explore Washington wines, with particular attention on the Yakima Valley. Each day this week, we will look at a different Washington winery.

Outside of the city of Yakima, is Gilbert Cellars. The winery is situated on the edge of the hills in a two barn-like structures made of metal an wood. Inside the decor is simple with some mid-century modern pieces. Outside there are lights dangling and a few tables and chairs strewn throughout the gardens for visitors to sit and enjoy a sip of wine. When we visited we were unaware of a members-only events; however, they allowed us to purchase a glass of wine still and relax at the property. We tried a couple of white wines, which were fine crisp cool wines on a warm day. Additionally, Gilbert Cellars often live music for patrons, creating an atmosphere to just relax, listen to some music, and have a little wine. For those staying in Yakima, Gilbert Cellars is a nice way to explore the Yakima Valley without going as far out.
