We frequently detour on trips and it has allowed us to explore a variety of different places. On a recent trip, we were able to stop at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City, IN. The farm is where Lincoln spent most of his childhood prior to his move to Springfield, IL that is the focal point of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. Lincoln’s boyhood home focuses on not only Lincoln, but farm life in the early to mid 1800s. The site today consists of the visitor center, a cemetery (with several of Lincoln’s family members), the site of his family’s cabin, a historical farm, and trails that wind through the park. The visitor center also provides a film that provides context to the site and life at the time. When we visited we were able to explore the whole park in a couple of hours and found it informative, interesting, and a great opportunity to get a nice walk in. Overall, it was a nice, low-key national park site visit and provided a great afternoon for history and nature!
