While there are large number of breweries in Columbus, Ohio, Columbus Brewing Company was one of the first in the city when microbreweries began growing in popularity in the 1980s and 1990s. It has since expanded to include a large portfolio of beers and a stylish taproom.
The brewery and taproom are conveniently located right off interstate 70, just west of downtown Columbus. The taproom has an industrial modern vibe, with lots of sleek metal, gray and black hues, and rich wood on the tables and chairs. A vibrant mural of motifs from the brewery’s can artwork spans one wall, adding a nice pop of color to the room. Though it was a bit cold when we were there, the taproom also had a nice patio area for warmer months.

Perhaps the most difficult part of a visit to Columbus Brewing Company is choosing just a few beers to try. The brewery has a host of beers on tap, ranging from pilsners and lagers to IPAs, from sours to barrel aged stouts and tripels. Despite so many tasty-sounding options, we eventually settled on a few to try, including a lovely pilsner, the brewery’s well-known Bodhi IPA, and very pleasant sour. Each of the beers was well-crafted, and our only disappointment was not being able to try more.
We paired our beer with a house salad with boneless wings and a basket of fries, both of which were flavorful and added to our experience. The brewery also featured pizza and a few sandwiches, so the food is an artisan take on traditional pub grub.
Columbus Brewing Company is a very nice brewery with good beer, tasty food, and a pleasant environment. We highly recommend it.
