Jerk Soul is a Jamaican restaurant located on Cherokee Street in St. Louis. The restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall, with little signage at the small storefront. Inside, there is a small area to stand in front of a countertop on the right-hand side of the room. As a result, Jerk Soul is only available for carry-out.
The no-frills restaurant belies the delicious food served there. Jerk Soul splits its menu into two halves. The first half features classic Jamaican dishes with jerk seasoning, while the second half boasts Jamaican and jerk flavors on American cuisine, such as Philly cheesesteak (but with jerk chicken), loaded fries, and burgers. There are also several sides and a meatless section of the menu.
We ordered a classic menu item, Judah’s Jerk Chicken, which featured a large portion of chicken with jerk seasoning. The entree came with two sides, and we ordered Caribbean corn and sweet potatoes. We also ordered an empanada and a side of plantains. The jerk chicken was grilled to perfection–a bit charred and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the jerk seasoning featuring prominently in every bite. All of the sides were just as flavorful.
Jerk Soul was a delight for the taste buds–every menu item we tried was bursting with flavor. We highly recommend trying Jerk Soul.
