Former railroads throughout the country have slowly been converted into trails in “rails to trails” program that connects neighborhoods and provides people with any opportunity to get out in nature to walk, run, bike, etc. The Grant’s Trail is one of several “rails to trails” program in the St. Louis area and connects to other area trails helping to further connect people. Grants trail runs from the center of St. Louis County in Kirkwood to the edge of southern St. Louis County right along the city/county border. The ten mile trail is paved and flat, making it more easily accessible, and weaves throughout a variety of neighborhoods even passes right by Grant’s Farm and the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site.

Along the trail there are multiple trailheads for visitors to park at and hop along the Grant’s Trail. When we visited we parked along one of the trailheads and decided to just walk until we felt like turning around. We passed fields, homes, and wooded areas, making for a changing landscape along the walk. We both agreed it was the perfect afternoon activity for a relaxed afternoon when we wanted to get a little fresh and exercise, but not have to venture to far out of the city.
