Right along the Ohio River in southern Illinois is Fort Massac State Park. The park is right off of highway 24 making it a great point for those traveling. Fort Massac State Park has a replica of Fort Massac that once stood there, as well as a space for visitors to see the former structure. Visitors are able to explore the grounds, picnic, boat, hike, fish, play disc golf, and see the visitor center. Throughout the year there are interpretive programs and a festival for visitors to engage further. Since the park is located along the highway we have visited a couple times during our travels and have always found the park to be a great place to get out of the car, stretch your legs, and enjoy some nice river views.
