Elkmont Exchange is a lovely brewery and restaurant that we visited on a recent trip to Knoxville. The brewery is worth a visit for its decor and atmosphere alone. It resides in an old building with lots of artistic details both outside and inside. Visitors are first greeted by wooden slats in a geometric design that cover one side of the building, a design that looks like an abstract mountain range. Among the other outdoor features are large casks inserted into the building, large logs that double as tables, and a fire pit that has a topographical map design in it. Inside, the decor is rustic chic, with lovely wooden floors and exposed wood beams on the ceiling, and simple walls with planters and beautifully draping green plants. A large bar with a river of stones inserted into the countertop serves as the focal point of the room with a large map of the Great Smoky Mountains behind it. Below the bar there is a plethora of seating. There are tables and chairs made of metal and wood along with several booths cut into beer casks that sit in the restaurant. In fact, the beer casks visible from the exterior are actually booths in the alcove of the cask. Overall, Elkmont Exchange has an industrial and rustic vibe, but is still clean and bright, creating a relaxing environment.

While the decor of the brewery is attention-grabbing, the beer is equally pleasant. Elkmont Exchange had over fifteen of its own beers on tap, along with a few guest taps. We sampled a tasting flight, getting to try a wild ale brewed with gin-infused elderberries, a cherry and berry sour beer, a saison, and a coffee lager. Each beer we had was very good, with lots of flavor. Although we did not eat at Elkmont Exchange, their food looked good as well, with their menu featuring fresh ingredients, decadent entrees, and artisan takes on some pub classics.

Overall, we were impressed with Elkmont Exchange and would love to go back soon. The environment was comforting and relaxing, and the beer was worth trying again and again. We would highly recommend trying Elkmont Exchange if you are in the Knoxville area.
