On the way to New York we decided to stop off in Casey, IL to visit ta few of the World’s Largest Items – a golf tee, knitting and crochet hook, mailbox, pitchfork, rocking chair, wind chime, wooden shoes. The town of Casey, IL is located right off of highway 70, making for an easy place to stop off at. A few years ago the cute town of Casey, IL realized they needed to generate more revenue and came up with the idea for the world’s largest items, which are recognized by Guinness World Records. The idea has worked, and the town of Casey, IL has become a unique tourist attraction.
The small downtown area of Casey, IL is quaint with brick lined two-story and three-story buildings. The downtown area has several restaurants, ice cream shops, and little boutiques. Most of the World Largest Items are located in the downtown making it easy to park your car and stretch your legs as you walk around. Besides the World’s Largest Items, there are other unique big item located throughout the stores and downtown, such as a big bat, big top, bird cage, bookworm, corn-on-the-cob, minion, pencil, rocking horse, wooden token, and yardstick. Our personal favorite item was the big teeter totter that visitors actually get to walk across. Volunteers help guests on and off the teeter totter helping to emphasize the communal aspect of the town. We both found Casey, IL to be the perfect stopping point to see unique attractions, but also agreed it would be fun for a weekend day trip for those in the Midwest.
