Summer Performances – Day 3

During the summer we look forward to Sunday evenings in Francis Park that feature the Compton Heights Concert Band. Each Sunday in July at 7:30 p.m., the Compton Heights Concert Band plays a variety of songs, such as show tunes, but the focus is primarily on John Sousa-style marches. The concerts provide visitors with an opportunity to take in some march-style music for free in the beautiful Francis Park setting. The park provides a natural theater as the stage is at the bottom of the hill, and visitors can then sit up the gentle slope, providing a vast array of seating options for visitors. Visitors often bring picnic dinners, and grab some Blue Bunny ice cream for a relaxing evening in the park. The playground is next to the stage, so children often play in the park until dark, making it a nice family outing. For the fourth of July concert the Compton Heights Concert Band puts on a full patriotic show. The band also plays at Tower Grove Park on Mondays, providing multiple neighborhoods with an opportunity to partake in the summer concerts. The Compton Heights Concert Band will begin in a couple weeks and provide the perfect summer evening activity.
