Old Capital Public House is one of only a few local restaurants in Kingston, Tennessee, but it is a fun place to grab a beer and a bite to eat. Old Capital is in a modern brick building, but designed in such a way as to look a bit older. The interior is simple, with some exposed brick, concrete floors, and an industrial vibe. The restaurant has windows all along the facade, so there’s quite a bit of light in the restaurant, which makes for a nice atmosphere. There’s also a lovely front patio on which to enjoy your meal if the weather is nice. The restaurant is run by Monkey Town Brewing Company in Dayton, so Old Capital features several of Monkey Town’s beers on tap, along with a couple guest taps. We were able to buy a tasting flight in order to try several of their beers, including an amber ale, an IPA, a blonde ale, and a mint chocolate stout. We were pleasantly surprised with the beers, and were impressed by the mint chocolate stout–it was flavorful, well-balanced, and delicious.
Old Capital Public House also offers a wide-variety of food options that could be described best as pub food. The appetizers include nachos, wings, potato skins, fried pickles, and pretzels with beer cheese. The restaurant has several salad and sandwich options, as well as entrees such as chicken tenders and fries and fish and chips. We were in the mood for something lighter, so we got the caesar salad and the harvest salad, both of which were tasty and just what we were in the mood for. We also got to try the pretzels with beer cheese and the fried pickles, both of which we enjoyed as well.
We were quite impressed with Old Capital Public House, enjoying the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere. We would certainly recommend trying it.
