We have enjoyed exploring Idaho in recent years and a unique stopping point is Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. The site is made up of several different areas that are along the Snake River. Hagerman is about half an hour from Idaho Falls, ID and near the highway, making it a fairly easy stopping point. The primary focus is the preserved fossil beds from the Pliocene era; however, the park also offers a museum, beautiful overlooks of the river, and the opportunity to see wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail! When we visited we went by the visitor center, some overlooks, and were even able to see the remnants of the wagons path. We enjoyed our visit and the opportunity to learn more about North America’s history and geology!
