Small Towns – Day 3
One of the most delightful little towns in the PNW is in one of our absolute favorite places, the Olympic Peninsula. The town of Sequim is situated in the northern part of the Peninsula and offers an adorable downtown area with quaint restaurants, galleries, cafes, and shops. We have visited several times, and enjoyed strolling along the streets and exploring the sweet little town.
We have visited a couple of cafes, including Rainshadow Cafe, which is in a small brick building with large windows. As the name suggests, Sequim is in the rain shadow, so visitors can visit the town and get a little reprieve from the rain, and on one side there is a nice, large patio for visitors to enjoy. Inside there are bright colors and pictures with an assortment of tables for visitors to dine at and display with food and drinks. The cafe offers coffee, breakfast, lunch, and pastries. When we enjoyed some coffee and pastries while we did a little work.
We have also visited Hurricane Coffee several times. Hurricane Coffee is in a larger building with big windows and stone work at the bottom. The large windows allow light to pour in and there are lots of cozy nooks to enjoy some coffee and a treat. Hurricane Coffee offers coffee, tea, baked goods, and a small menu. We have tried a couple different items and enjoyed them each time!
Sequim is particularly known though for their lavender fields and the Lavender Festival. Around the area are several lavender farms and visitors can stop by to explore the fields and get some lavender goods. When we visited we stopped at Washington Lavender Farm, which is also an inn. The fields are no longer available to visit, but you can still stay at the inn and visit the gift shop. Besides the lavender and downtown, the area also offers several city parks, state parks, an alpaca ranch, museum, a nature center, and art galleries.
