Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site is located in central Oregon along the banks of the John Day River, a small but scenic waterway that cuts a lovely path through the dry desert and light green foliage. We arrived late in the evening and camped at Clyde Holliday. While we weren’t able to see the landscape around us then, we were able to see the beautiful sky. Without much light pollution in the surrounding area, it was a great place to stargaze. In the morning, we were able to explore the scenery and terrain, taking a lovely amble along the John Day River, taking in the rushing water, the varieties of grasses along the banks, and the cottonwood trees framing the river.
We very much enjoyed our time at Clyde Holliday. The park’s amenities were nice, and the setting was beautiful, but calming. Clyde Holliday is a nice place to relax and is a great jumping off point for exploring the surrounding area, including John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
