Unlike many breweries, de Garde Brewing specializes in beers brewed in a specific way–in the open air fermented with the naturally-occurring yeast and bacteria. de Garde Brewing is located along the Oregon coast in Tillamook, a location that de Garde specifically chose because of the type of yeast and bacteria in the environment there. de Garde also utilizes locally-sourced ingredients, making its beers, as the brewery says, a product of its location.
de Garde’s taproom resides in a small, unassuming storefront in downtown Tillamook. The interior is also small, but bright with lots of windows. Since it was such a nice day, however, we chose to sit outside on the patio.
Since de Garde’s beers are all naturally fermented and barrel aged, the taproom features a rotating selection. We were able to try three of de Garde’s beers, our favorite being an elderberry sour. We also purchased a bottle to go, a wild ale aged in oak barrels, which was probably the best of all the beers we tried.
de Garde Brewing offers unique beers that are very much a product of the beautiful Oregon coast. We recommend trying this brewery if you pay the coast a visit.
