Although cold and rainy in the PNW, Hawaii offers some respite. Since the holidays have passed, in a few weeks Hawaii becomes a little more affordable and less crowded. Even more serendipitous, it is whale watching season! During a visit to Honolulu we had the pleasure of going on a whale watching boat. We found one whale pretty quickly and spent the morning following alongside her, but she breached only a few times. Although not the best whale watching excursion we have been on, a whale watching tour also allows you to have a lovely day on the water and get amazing views of Hawaii. The boat cruises can often be expensive; however, some tours are more affordable. Another, more affordable option, is to bring an inexpensive pair of binoculars, relax on a cliff or beach and just look for the beautiful whales emerging!
