The countryside of Pennsylvania was changed forever when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into an old strip mine outside of Shanksville, PA. The site is situated on rolling Pennsylvania hills and is both eerie and beautiful at the same time. Flight 93 was one of the several targeted planes on September 11, 2001. Together the passengers worked together, knowing it would most likely lead to their deaths, to prevent the plane from being used by hijackers. The memorial is now operated by the National Park Service, which commemorates their lives, remembers 911, and memorializes the site.

There is a beautiful memorial called the Tower of Voices that has chimes within it that each represent a passenger. As visitors continue down the road there is a museum overlooking the crash site that explores the lives lost and outlines the events of that fateful day. Afterwards, visitors can continue on to the crash site, where a single boulder marks where the plane crashed. Visitors can reflect, pause, and grieve, the lives lost on that day and the actions of the few that saved many more.
