The town of Kimmswick, MO is right outside of St. Louis and is a popular weekend destination right off of highway 55. The downtown is located along the river and is only a few blocks, but is full of an assortment of little kitsch shops and several eateries. The shops and restaurants are primarily located in former homes that have been converted to businesses, creating a relaxed atmosphere instead of a formal and defined downtown district. Visitors can shop for home goods, antiques, candy, furniture, spices, a variety of gifts, and more.

One of the main attractions is The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery, which serves classic American cuisine and is known specifically for their large assortment of pies. We definitely recommend grabbing a little pie if you are hiking or driving through the area. Kimmswick is also home to several museums, historic homes, and LaChance Winery, providing various opportunities for visitors to explore the little town. Besides the town itself Kimmswick is known for a couple of events throughout the year, including the Strawberry Festival and the Apple Butter Festival that are attended by thousands. For those exploring Mastadon State Historic Site and in need of a bite eat, visitors driving through St. Louis on Highway 55 and wanting a little detour, or anyone who enjoys wandering into shops for knick-knacks, then Kimmswick might make a fun detour.
