St. Louis Restaurant Week – Day 5
Hendel’s Restaurant, located in Florissant, is a lovely restaurant in a historic building dating to 1873. In that year, the building was constructed as a grocery and general store. It remained a grocery store of sorts until 1993. A year later, the restaurant opened in the beautiful historic brick building.
Inside, the restaurant is divided into several small rooms, which almost have the appearance of a house. The decor is simple but elegant–beautiful wood floors, tan colored walls with white molding, and nice dining tables and chairs. We opted to sit outside on a covered brick patio in front of an indoor/outdoor fireplace. The patio was surrounded by foliage and made for a lovely, peaceful setting.

Hendel’s has a large menu of artisanal salads, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, and steaks, along with a selection of appetizers and sides. We ordered a gyro and gyro bowl, enjoying both and finding each meal to be well-prepared with fresh ingredients. Though we didn’t order anything other than water, Hendel’s boasts a large drink menu featuring a wines, spirits, cocktails, beer, and plenty of non-alcoholic beverages.

Hendel’s is a very nice restaurant with a relaxing, yet upscale, setting and tasty food. The historic building and patio add to the experience. Overall, Hendel’s is a great place to grab a drink and have a bite to eat.
