St. Louis Restaurant Week – Day 4
Vinnie’s Italian Beef and Gyros, a self-described Chicago-style sandwich shop, serves big Italian and Greek inspired dishes in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood. The restaurant sits inside an unassuming cream and red brick building–blink as you drive by, and you might miss it–along a small road with a few other shops and restaurants. Inside, Vinnie’s has all the appearances of a small, local sandwich shop. There’s a counter as you walk in with a chalkboard menu hanging above it. Sandwiches and food are prepared just to the right. The rest of the small space is devoted to plain tables and chairs with sports paraphernalia adorning the walls.
Vinnie’s menu is split into two main parts, one featuring Italian dishes, the other Greek. The Italian dishes are all large Italian-style sandwiches, such as hot pastrami, Italian beef, meatball, and a Chicago-style hot dog. The Greek dishes are largely variations of gyros or gyro salads. There are also a few appetizers and sides. No matter what you decide to order, the portion sizes are large and the food, hearty.
If you’re in the neighborhood, Vinnie’s is an interesting experience for those looking for savory flavors and big servings.
