Toppling Goliath Brewing Company is well-known and acclaimed for its beers, especially several of its stouts and IPAs. The brewery is located in the small town of Decorah, Iowa in the northeastern corner of the state.
The brewery is in a large gray metal building with red accents. A large patio stands in front. The interior is expansive, with many different seating options available and tables filling the cavernous space. A second level and several stuffed animal heads draw your attention upward. On the whole, the space is clean and plain.

While many breweries offer service at the bar, Toppling Goliath seated patrons in the tap room and had servers take food and drink orders. The brewery provides a host of its beers on tap, as well as a full dining menu. We tried several of Toppling Goliath’s beers in a tasting flight, representing a variety of styles. We sampled the TG Pils, Dorothy’s Old World Lager, King Sue IPA, Mornin’ Latte Nitro Milk Stout, and Dragon Fandango kettle sour. We also tried Barrel-Aged Stout Hawks, an imperial stout with flavors of pecan praline. All of the beers were very good and interesting to try. We were also able to purchase beer to go, including one of Toppling Goliath’s famous stouts.

Toppling Goliath’s menu is made up of typical brewpub fare, such as appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and pizza. We decided to get something small to pair with our beer, so we ordered a pretzel dipped in the brewery’s King Sue beer served with Dorothy’s lager beer cheese. The pretzel and dip was a nice snack and went well with our tasting flight.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Toppling Goliath and found it to be a fun place to grab a good beer.
