Since the Ohio River runs through Louisville, there is an assortment of parks lining the riverbanks throughout the city. While on our way to visit family, we stopped off at Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville. The park is made up of several small parks to create a large riverfront park that is connected through trails, including a pedestrian bridge into Indiana, making it a great place to start a walk/run/bike ride. Waterfront Park offers playgrounds, boat docks, art work, trails, large green spaces, an amphitheater, and nice river views. Additionally, throughout the year the park has an assortment of events, ensuring visitors have a variety of activities to engage with. The park continues to be developed and trails will eventually connect the park to the local steamboat, Belle of Louisville, that visitors can hop on and explore the city further on. When we visited we were some of the only people at the park, allowing us to get a restful break from the car ride. We walked along the trails and enjoyed the views of the bridge and some bird watching. The park was well-paved, making it more accessible for visitors. Additionally the park was easy to get to off the highway, making for a great stopping point along the way from St. Louis to Virginia.
