Napa Valley is full of wineries; however, our absolute favorite is Grgich Hills Estate. There are several growing fields, but the winery and tasting room is located in the town of Rutherford, CA right along the main road that runs through the valley. The winery is in a stone-constructed building with a large indoor tasting room. Outside there is multiple patios with water features, beautiful vegetation, and nice pergolas. Grgich Hills became famous when they entered into 1973 Paris Tasting and won for their white. Their win helped to put Napa, and Eastern European wines, on the wine scene. Since then they have continued to utilize an older-style of wine that we actually prefer because their wines are complex and flavorful.

When we visited, although it was in the midst of summer, we sat outside in the shade with the fans on and the soothing sound of the water feature and had a lovely visit. We had arrived quite early for our tasting and the employees were so kind! They brought us a glass of wine while they set-up our tasting and then let us start early. It was a completely delightful experience! We reserved the Seated Miljenko’s Tasting, which is supposed to last 90 minutes; however, we were there for around two hours. The server was helpful, kind, and allowed us to try a variety of additional wines based on how we responded to the tastings along the way. The wine itself was amazing! We both agreed that it was the best wine tasting and wine we had ever had!

Side Note: For those who live in the area, Grgich Hills offer events throughout the year, such as live music.
