Charleville Brewing Company actually began as Charleville Vineyard, a winery located in Ste. Genevieve. Charleville eventually expanded their drink offerings to include beer, and they opened a brewery at their vineyard. More recently, Charleville has opened a second location in St. Louis in the Downtown West neighborhood. Although it is a bit farther south than the main corridor of St. Louis’s central downtown area, the brewery commands great views of the city and features a classic St. Louis brick building. While there is a main entrance on Chouteau Avenue, there is a second entrance on the brewery’s eastern side, where there is also a lovely outdoor patio.

The interior of the brewery has a bit of a classic pub feel–brick and wood on the walls and bar, high-top tables with metal bar stools, and some other industrial elements. The bar commands a central presence in the space. Charleville offers a number of its beers on tap, all listed on large chalkboards behind the bar. The brewery had a wide-variety of beers to choose from, making it easy to find something that you might like. We tried four different beers, including a pilsner, a wheat, and an IPA, and enjoyed trying each of them.

Charleville’s tasting room also features a food menu. The brewery offers smashburgers on Sundays; otherwise, the menu has elevated pub food. This includes wings, fries, and pretzels as appetizers, as well as a burger, a chicken sandwich, a crab cake sandwich, and salads for entrees. We decided to split the fried chicken breast sandwich, which came with garlic and parmesan fries, and very much enjoyed our food selection.

Overall, Charleville Brewing Company’s relaxing atmosphere provided a nice respite, and the food and drinks were enjoyable. We recommend checking out Charleville Brewing Company’s second location in St. Louis.
