Park Week – Day 2
Anyone driving along highway 44 through Midtown St. Louis may notice a large structure that is the Compton Hill Reservoir; however, the reservoir is also a nice park. The park was formed in 1867, making it a historic staple in St. Louis city. At the center of the park is the reservoir that is a massive structure featuring Romanesque-style architecture throughout. Near the top of the reservoir there is a trail that wraps around it that visitors can walk alongside. Some of the best views of the city are from the upper-park trail and provide a unique vantage point of the metro area as a whole. Besides some good city views, the park has some walking paths, a playground, tennis courts, a dog park, a little pond, and a pavilion, providing an assortment of activities for visitors to enjoy. One of the best parts of the park though is the water tower that is a stately structure and one of the only remaining standpipe water towers in the country. Although currently closed, visitors typically can climb to the top of the tower on select days and times. Compton Hill Reservoir Park is a great way to enjoy a little nature and some nice city views for those who live in St. Louis City.
