Perennial Artisan Ales has been a part of the St. Louis beer scene for almost ten years now, and they have recently expanded to a second location called Perennial on Lockwood. This satellite location is embedded in Olive and Oak restaurant, pairing Perennial’s beer with some of Olive and Oak’s food.
Perennial on Lockwood is located behind Olive and Oak’s restaurant in a large, vaulted room that’s simple and sleek. The space is tastefully decorated in a modern design, but with some warm and welcoming elements, such as the cream colored walls and wood accents. Perennial also has a second large room that is more sparsely decorated, but has lots of windows and space for a more airy atmosphere that feels a bit like an outdoor patio.
Perennial’s menu features a plethora of Perennial beers, ranging from stouts to IPAs to saisons. Since we visited during the winter months, we were able to try different versions of Perennial’s Abraxas stout. This stout brewed with ancho chiles, cacao nibs, cinnamon, and vanilla beans is one of Perennial’s best-known beers and is a real treat, so we were happy to be able to sip these beers in such a relaxing atmosphere. If you prefer a different kind of drink however, Perennial on Lockwood also has cocktails and liquors.
In addition to their drink menu, Perennial on Lockwood also has a food menu that features artisanal comfort food. There are an array of appetizers and sides, along with a few sandwiches and entrees. We decided to try a couple of appetizers and ordered pretzel monkey bread with accompanying mustard and beer cheese and whipped feta with toasted bread. We enjoyed the food and found that it paired well with our beers.
Perennial on Lockwood offers great beer paired with good food in a pleasant atmosphere. We highly recommend Perennial on Lockwood, either for a fun way to end the week or for a lovely evening out.
