Union Loafers is located in the Botanical Heights neighborhood and is a popular St. Louis bakery and restaurant. Union Loafers is situated across the street from La Patisserie Choquette in a cute two-story red brick building with ornate detailing above the door. In front there is a small patio for visitors to sit that has a couple of wooden noise barriers to provide some reprieve from the street. Inside the decor is austere with white walls and white subway tiles, a brick accent wall, large windows allowing light to pour in, small single bulbs hanging uniformly, plants sparsely placed, wood and black metal accents throughout as the shelves, countertop, tables, and chairs.

The Classic

The bakery is centered around bread and visitors can order various fresh loaves. Additionally, since bread is the main focus the restaurant features sandwiches and pizza that incorporate bread into each dish, as well as an assortment of salads, soups, and sides that are the perfect accompaniment to sandwich. During the pandemic the restaurant has been closed except for pick-up and Union Loafers has focused on baking bread and making pizzas. We recently tried their classic and pepperoni to-go for a weekend date night. The dough on the bread was well-made and flavorful. The pizza itself was quite greasy and full of toppings, so for those who love a good greasy slice with lots of toppings – they did not disappoint. Besides food, Union Loafers has a large array of drinks for visitors to chose from. The location is between highway 44 and 66 making it a nice place to grab some dinner. We were glad to try Union Loafers and both agreed we would love to try their sandwiches that highlight their incredible bread.
