Fernweh Distilling Company is located on the banks of the Missouri River in the small town of Hermann. Housed in a beautiful and stately old brick building, the distillery is charming and almost seems to take you back in time. The distillery itself includes both a distillery and a restaurant, with a small patio overlooking the river. The interior of the building continues the old charm from the exterior, though it has also been modernized tastefully with nice woods and dark colors. Despite the nice atmosphere, we opted to sit outside with the view of the river.

Fernweh’s menu features a rather small array of more artisanally prepared foods. We had a salad and Fernweh’s smoked brisket, along with fries. Each of our dishes was flavorful and was made even better by the lovely setting.

After our meal, we returned to the atrium of the restaurant, which serves as a small tasting room. We were able to sample four of Fernweh’s spirits, including a nice vodka, a rather interesting spirit made with rose and chamomile, a bourbon whiskey, and a rye whiskey. All of the spirits were well-made, and we were glad to be able to try them.

Overall, Fernweh was a pleasant place to visit and we believe is one of the best places to go in Hermann.
