A well-known Missouri winery that is the oldest winery in the state and one of the oldest wineries in the country is Stone Hill Winery. The winery opened in 1847 and is located in Hermann, MO on a large swath of land that provides picturesque views of the bluffs and the city. The grounds provide visitors with a restaurant, a plethora of space for picnics, a restaurant, gift shop filled an assortment of home decor (and wine of course) and the winery itself. Visitors can typically partake in various tours of the winery and a tasting, but due to the pandemic, visitors are limited to exploring the grounds and a tasting. Additionally, Stone Hill often has live music and special events for visitors to enjoy.

Stone Hill has an assortment of red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines, as well juice. The winery has won several awards, including several incorporating the Norton grape. The Norton grape is well-known throughout Missouri wineries and Riedel stemware was actually created specifically for the Norton grape. (We highly recommend utilizing the stemware – it brings out flavors in a completely new way!) When we visited the winery we participated in a wine tasting and the winery as packed, so we definitely recommend trying to visit on a week day. We mainly tried the reds, since we prefer reds, and found the wines to be nice for a meal at home. Overall, we found the winery grounds to be beautiful and enjoyed the opportunity to try one of the oldest wineries in the country.

Side Note: Stone Hill Winery is also a popular venue for special events.
