Rockwell Beer Company is a more recent addition to the St. Louis craft beer scene, opening its taproom at the end of 2018. Despite being a new brewery, however, Rockwell is a great place to hang out and grab a beer.

Rockwell’s brewery and taproom are located in the Botanical Heights neighborhood along Vandeventer Avenue. The brewery is quite distinctive–although much of the building is an old brick warehouse now painted navy, Rockwell has added several re-purposed shipping containers to the front of the building, each painted a different bright color. The shipping containers help make up a lovely patio area surrounded by grasses and small trees that give the patio a rather peaceful and secluded feeling, despite being only a few steps from the road. Inside, the taproom is sleek and modern, with white walls, black accents, and lots of wooden slats on the ceilings and behind the bar.

Although Rockwell does not have tasting flights, they do provide small pours of each of their beers, allowing patrons to try several of their beers, if they so choose. Rockwell’s beers typically are brewed in traditional styles, although some have some experimental twists. We tried four beers and enjoyed all of them, though we particularly liked their pilsner and one of their IPAs. While we only purchased beer, Rockwell also has some food options provided by the Niche food group.

Overall, we found Rockwell to serve good beer and enjoyed their taproom and patio area. We definitely recommend sipping a pint or two outdoors at the brewery.
