Vienna Week – Day 1

Located outside of the Vienna center and out far into the Vienna suburbs is Leopoldauer Alm. The restaurant is focused on large portions, meat, and a nod of Alpine cuisine. During our most recent visit to Vienna, our family members took us to Leopoldauer Alm. The restaurant is a 25 minute U-Bahn ride out of the city and just off the U-Bahn. There is a large outdoor patio and inside there are several rooms with a lot of wood, antlers as decor, and an assortment of farming accessories hanging on the walls and throughout the ceiling.

When we visited we sat in the semi-enclosed patio, which allowed us to enjoy the outdoors, but also stay a bit warmer. We order the wiener schnitzel and the Alpine sampler platter, which were both good, and also massive portions. The portions were so large we actually had enough for a whole other meal! The Leopoldauer Alm is a restaurant focused on fun, over-the-top dramatization of Alpine food and culture; however, the restaurant’s location reflects it is geared primarily towards an Austrian clientele. We were definitely the only people from out of town at the restaurant. For those looking for a hearty meal, and a bit of an experience, the Leopoldauer Alm, might be a fun detour from the city.
