Lights Week – Day 2

Some of our absolute favorite light displays are located in our neighborhood of St. Louis Hills. The majority of the neighborhood is covered in lights, providing visitors with a plethora of opportunities to see lovely light displays; however, there are several streets  decked out with themes, including Candy Cane Lane, Angel Avenue, and Snowflake Street.  Candy Cane Lane is the most well-known street and is several blocks decked out with candy cane theme decorations, as well as additional decor. Candy Cane Lane has become so popular that traffic often is backed up several blocks now. Angel Avenue is a single block, but has a nice display, and one house in particular is provides visitors an assortment of entertainment. The house has synced lights with live music, that often has visitors stopping and dancing in the streets, making for a lovely evening. Finally, Snowflake Street runs next to Nottingham School, and one side is houses decorated, while the other side is the decorated fence with snowflake designs.

If you are driving, we recommend coming up on Candy Cane Lane from the east on Nottingham, because visitors often come from Chippewa and have to turn left to enter the lane. The traffic often causes a back-up on Chippewa, but if visitors continue just a little bit further and turn right on Donovan and then right on Nottingham it will provide an easier way to access the lane. If you continue down Candy Cane Lane you can then turn right on Prague to enter on Angel Avenue. Finally, you can make a right again on Nottingham, a left on Donovan, and a right on Neosho to Snowflake Street.

Another option that we recommend is simply parking your car and just strolling through the neighborhood to explore the main streets, but also the smaller ones and their decor. Almost every night we go for a walk in the month of December to explore the holiday lights. The St. Louis holiday lights are free for visitors, unlike other light displays in the metro area, but the main streets that each decorate each take donations for different local charities. The St. Louis Hills neighborhood provides a great way to experience holiday lights and also explore a St. Louis neighborhood.
