New York City Park Week – Day 1

As the weather turns a bit colder, it is it the perfect time to settle into a bench now that the city is less crowded and sit in a sunny area with a cool breeze blowing through. Fall is our favorite in New York City as the tourist numbers dwindle, the leaves change, and you can have a little quiet time even in the center of the city’s parks. Each day we will be focusing on different parks throughout the city that provide you a little reprieve and a moment to just sit and relax in nature.

While living in New York City, Washington Square Park was the heart of New York to us, and Union Square served as the border for our often day-to-day excursions. Union Square Park is located the Union Square neighborhood and is a central hub for the subway (including our favorite – the R). The neighborhood borders lower Manhattan, sitting at the bottom of midtown Manhattan. Union Square Park is a combination of green spaces with expansive trees that provide fresh air, shade, flowers in spring, and an array of colors in the fall, as well as open spaces for the daily open-air market. The park is also home to a dog run, several monuments, a playground, a restaurant, and occasional performances. Since Union Square Park is situated in the heart of the city and is surrounded by tall, grand buildings, and a wide variety of restaurants and shops.  Union Square continues to be one of our favorite places to in New York and we both enjoy stopping by the market to explore the various vendors.
