Cafe Tirolerhof is a rather elegant coffeehouse in a lovely setting within the Vienna city center–it’s just down the street from the Albertina art museum and the Vienna Staatsoper. Although the upper reaches of the building’s facade are lovely, the bottom floor, where the cafe is located, is rather plain. The interior, however, is beautiful and cozy. The rooms are spacious and a bit dark with cream colored walls and decorative archways framed in dark wood. There aren’t decorations on the wall; instead, the elegance comes from the tables, chairs, and other cafe implements. The walls are lined with bench seating, featuring dark wood and an elegant red fabric with large yellow flowers. The other chairs in the cafe are in the Thonet-style and also feature dark wood. The tables are all topped with marble. All of these features make for an elegant but cozy atmosphere with just the right amount of pretension and hominess.

While Cafe Tirolerhof serves lunch and dinner fare, we went there for coffee and cake. The cafe’s current cake options are displayed in a dark wooden case at the center of the room, and patrons are able to see what they would like to have. We had a type of chocolate cake and an apple strudel, both of which were delicious. We enjoyed them both with coffee drinks that were equally tasty. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Cafe Tirolerhof and found it to be one of our favorite cafes that we visited.
