Another Forest Park and St. Louis gem, is the Missouri History Museum. Like most places in Forest Park, the museum is free.  The museum is run by the Missouri Historical Society, which originated in 1866, and the building, the Jefferson Memorial, was created in the early 1900s and features an impressive neoclassical/federal style building that has been expanded upon with a modern clean-cut glass design. The majority of the exhibits are open year-round and free, but a few are traveling exhibits that may be ticketed at times. There are three levels of the museum including the basement, where the main lecture hall is, the first floor, which features several exhibits and the gift shop that has an assortment of St. Louis themed gifts, and the second floor, which has several exhibits and a cafe that provides expansive views of the park.

The majority of the exhibits focus on the history of Missouri and St. Louis, but also connect to a broader United States history. Some exhibits permanent, but others transition, providing visitors with new exhibits to each experience each time. The museum also has various lectures, a film festival, and events, such as the outdoor summer concert series. The Missouri History Museum continues to be a fantastic free museum for visitors to learn more about the history of the area and Missouri, while also being situated in an impressive structure in Forest Park.
