Backwoods Brewing Company began as a brewpub in Carson, Washington, a small town in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. They have now opened a second location in the Pearl District of Portland. We visited the Portland location and found it to be a fun place to spend some time.

The location is in a handsome brick building (now painted a dark green color) with lots of large windows surrounding the structure. The interior retains some of the old industrial elements, such as some lovely exposed brick and wooden beams in the ceiling. There is also plenty of wood to match the brewery’s name, including a beautiful wooden bar, tables, and chairs. The brewery has quite a few of its beers on tap, many of which were brewed to style, at least while we were there. We tried a tasting flight, and enjoyed it. The brewery also has a nice food menu featuring local ingredients, although we were only able to try their beer. Backwoods Brewing provided a nice, relaxing setting to enjoy some beer.
