STL Restaurant Week – Day 5

A well-known South City St. Louis restaurant is Trattoria Marcella. The restaurant has been in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood since 1995, and has won many awards since its opening. Trattoria Marcella is located on a corner in a two-story brick structure with ornate architectural features. There is an awning outside that provides visitors with outdoor seating, and during the colder months the outdoor patio is heated. Inside there are several small rooms for visitors to have a more intimate setting. The decor is fairly simple with light yellow walls, minimal light fixtures, and a few pieces of art in the Venetian style. We were seated at a booth tucked away, providing a nice dining setting.

The majority of St. Louis Italian restaurants are Sicilian; however, Trattoria Marcella is not, providing a new take on Italian cuisine. When we visited we each ordered a glass of wine and a field greens salad to begin with. Both the salad and the wine were quite nice. Afterwards, we ordered the pappardelle bolognese and the lasagna. The portions were large and delicious. We both found our dishes to be quite flavorful and well prepared. Although we intended to order dessert as well we were too full and had enough food to take home for a second meal. Additionally, throughout the meal the service was terrific. The entire dining experience was relaxing and enjoyable, making Trattoria Marcella one of our favorite restaurants in South City.
