Located in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan is General Grant National Memorial. The site is located within Riverside Park The memorial is a grand structure that holds the tombs of President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife. The mausoleum is two floors and visitors enter on the upper floor and look down on the tombs, but can also walk down the stairs to the lower level. The inside is elaborate stone work that is quite impressive and throughout the mausoleum there are small alcoves with historical artifacts. Around the corner and across the street from the memorial is a small museum that provides additional information of President Grant. There is a video on Grant’s life that is quite informative and depicts President Grant in a new way that challenges previous perceptions. Overall, the site only takes about an hour, making it fun, little site to visit We both enjoyed our visit and were excited to learn more about President Grant.
