For those who enjoy scenic drives, Route 66 State Park is perfect. The park is located in the St. Louis metro area right off of highway 44, just outside of Eurkea making it easily accessible from St. Louis city. The park offers scenic drives, hiking, biking, boating, fishing. picnicking, and horseback riding trails, as well as a playground. The park runs along the highway, not allowing visitors to completely remove themselves from the noise, but is along the Meramec River, providing some nice boating opportunities. Additionally, the park has a visitor center that provides visitors with a background on the Historic Route 66, which the park is named after.

We recently visited as a storm was rolling in and were greeted with some beautiful views, as well as a mother deer and her two does. We had planned on going on a hike; however, the weather changed our plans so instead we went along the scenic road a couple times that is accessible to bikers as well and enjoyed the incredible views. The drive was one of our favorites and we enjoyed getting to see some wildlife and prairie views. We hope to return and see the park in a new way through a hike.
