We recently moved back temporarily from New York City to St. Louis. Since we are back, we have been trying to visit as many St. Louis attractions while we are visiting. To begin we will start with a St. Louis classic.
Ted Drewes Frozen Custard is a St. Louis South City institution. There are two locations on Chippewa and Grand, but the Chippewa location is open longer throughout the year, while the Grand location is open seasonally. Additionally, the Chippewa location sells Christmas trees during the Christmas season, making it a popular stopping point for custard and holiday treats almost all year round. Since Margaret grew up only a few blocks from the Chippewa location we frequent that location, which is located along the historic Route 66.
Ted Drewes took root in the Chippewa location in 1941 and has since expanded and become a popular attraction. As the name suggests, Ted Drewes serves frozen custard, which is similar to ice cream, but has a different consistency and is thicker. Additionally, Ted Drewes is known for the ability to flip over the frozen custard and it will not fall down. The custard has a plethora of flavor additives, ensuring there is a flavor for everyone, as well as seasonal flavors. Besides the standard custard, there is also malts, shakes, floats, ice-cream sodas, and sundaes. We have already had a couple visitors to St. Louis now that we are back and all of them have insisted on heading to Ted Drewes for a frozen custard treat.
