Located down the street from Washington Square Park and in the midst of NYU on LaGuardia Place is Favela Cubana. The restaurant is located right off of the little park that runs along LaGuardia, providing a nice outdoor seating at the restaurant that has a raised deck with decorated lighting. The outdoor deck opens up to the inside, which is a long narrow room, with a bar in the back and tables along both sides. The decor reflects the cuisine focus on Brazilian and Cuban, with large prints along the wall, including images of Carnival, bar stools in the shape of drums, and a palm tree.
We have visited a couple times now and like both the atmosphere and the food. Favela Cubana offers some fantastic lunch and drink specials from 11 to 7, making it a great place for those around Washington Square Park to head to for lunch or after work for some delicious, cheap drinks. Since we have visited a couple times we have been able to try a few things and each time found the food delicious. Brazil is known for Pao de Queijo, a cheesy bread and Favela Cubana offers some delicious Pao de Queijo, as well as other Brazilian classics. For those who are looking for Brazilian and Cuban food near Washington Square Park, Favela Cubana provides delicious food and a nice atmosphere.
