One of our favorite places to get drinks, certainly in our own neighborhood but also in New York City, is Le Boudoir, a speakeasy in Brooklyn Heights modeled after Marie Antoinette’s chambers. The bar is small and cozy, but also rich and opulent. This, coupled with some great drinks, makes Le Boudoir a romantic and chic place for a late night cocktail.

Le Boudoir is located on Atlantic Avenue, with an inconspicuous door below street level, underneath Chez Moi. However, it’s much more fun to enter through Chez Moi, where the host/hostess will open a hidden bookcase for you, after which you descend a narrow set of stairs to the bar. Le Boudoir is dark, with ornate furniture, plush velvet cushions, marble tables, and intricate details throughout the space. Around the corner there is a stone, tunnel-like room, which used to be part of the subway system. There are cushions lining the room and a few more tables. This room is also dimly lit, and offers a different atmosphere, although just as romantic, as the main space.

Our waiter was attentive, and we each ordered a different drink, the Guillotine–a Scotch-based drink–and the Du Barry–a bourbon-based drink. Both were well-made and tasteful, with the ingredients complementing, but not overpowering, the alcohol. Although we only had our drinks, Le Boudoir also offers a few snacks and desserts if you’d like to pair a bit of food with your drink.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic date night location or just wanting the royal treatment, Le Boudoir offers good cocktails in a refined setting, made more fun by its speakeasy character. A visit to Le Boudoir is well worth your time.
