A classic New York City experience is a visit to the Russian Tea Room. We had heard a lot about the restaurant from New Yorkers and we found that the expectations lived up to the hype. Upon entering visitors are in a windowless room surrounded with bright green walls, red booths, and a gold ceiling with a large chandelier. Along the walls are gold trimmings and numerous pieces of artwork. The restaurant is comprised of several floors and when we arrived we were taken up to a different floor.

We were taken up to a room with a crystal bear holding a metal sculpture at the entrance and the room itself was filled with multi-colored glass in ornate shapes. The ceiling is array of colors and in the back is a large gold tree with colored eggs. There are booths along the walls and tables down the middle. The room was exquisite and provided a grand evening for the meal.

When we visited it was during restaurant week so we were able to choose from a few options from multiple courses. We had the borscht, blinchik, grilled salmon, cĂ´telette Ă la Kiev, cheesecake, and chocolate mousse cake, as well as a glass of the house red. Both of us thought the food was quite tasty and were quite impressed. Afterwards, we relaxed and enjoyed our wine and the ambiance. The Russian Tea Room provided us with a grand afternoon and a delicious meal.
