On our way back from Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Preserve we stopped and camped at Oscar Scherer State Park. It is located in Osprey, FL, a little bit south of Sarasota, FL. The park like many Florida state parks is centered around a waterway that provides a variety of activities including, birding, biking, camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, geo-seeking, kayaking, roller blading, snorkeling, and wildlife viewing, as well as the park has a visitor center, playgrounds, picnic grounds, and beach access. When we visited we arrived fairly late so we simply set up camp and then headed to bed. In the morning however we went for a hike and explored the park, which runs along a river with a couple of lakes. The scenery is primarily a scrubby wetlands making it a flat, easy walk along the shrubs and a sparse array of trees. The park is known for birding so visitors can either hike along the trails or go on one of the waterways. Like the Georgia state parks, each of the Florida parks has its own activities and is fun to explore!
