One of the museums further down from the Museum Mile in New York City is the Frick Collection. The collection is located across from Central Park in the former home of Henry Clay Frick, an industrial tycoon who donated the home and the pieces within the home to serve as a museum. The home is a beautiful structure with expansive views of Central Park from inside it, and the back has been expanded on for additional room.

The basement houses rotating exhibitions, the 1st floor is full of exquisite art and furniture, and the upper floor is not open to the public. There is an auditorium where films regarding the Frick Collection and rotating exhibits are shown. We started watching the films which helped to put the exhibits and the history of Henry Clay Frick into perspective, as well as provide background information. Afterwards, we strolled about the museum and surveyed the architecture, furniture, and art. The Frick Collection does not disappoint in providing numerous kinds of ornate art all around. The collection is home to numerous artists such as Rembrandt or Van Dyck, and many others, but also a plethora of other forms of art such as sculpture, pottery, and clocks. The Frick Collection provides a phenomenal art experience for varying art enthusiasts.

We were at the museum for around two hours and felt like we saw the museum in its entirety. The Frick Collection is the perfect afternoon activity to stroll around and take in some incredible art. Afterwards, visitors can explore another museum, head into Central Park, or take in some fine dining in the Upper East Side.

Side Note: The museum, like many in New York City, offers a pay what you wish on Wednesday afternoons and is free Friday evenings. Additionally NYU students receive free admission.
