Pizza Mercato is what you think of when you picture a New York pizza joint. The restaurant is only a couple blocks from Washington Square Park and caters to mostly NYU students, although we spotted some others inside when we were there. There is a large, street-facing window on one side of the pizzeria, where enormous pies beckon you inside. If that isn’t enough, the aroma of baking pizza will surely get your attention. The interior is sparse and cramped, although it is clean and has a few seats available. Patrons can order pizza by the slice, which is delivered up hot after only a couple minutes. The giant slices are tasty and filling–we had a slice apiece and were quite satisfied. For those who are a little hungrier, you can always get a second slice, or get a salad from the menu.
Pizza Mercato was reasonably priced and offered a good slice of pizza, which was just what we were hoping for on a cold New York day. If you need a quick bite to eat in the Village, Pizza Mercato is a great place to try.
