The first brewery in Decatur, Georgia, still only two and a half years old, is Blue Tarp Brewing. Despite the fact that it’s nearing its third anniversary, Blue Tarp is only now beginning to distribute its beer in bottles, so you need to go to a bar with Blue Tarp’s beer on tap, or, as we did, go to the brewery. The facility is located off College Ave. near downtown Decatur in a rather unassuming building. The brewery is sparsely decorated with a very industrial vibe. The brewery features a large, welcoming outdoor space, as well as a second area devoted to games such as bags. The brewery offered several beers, all but one being session ales and IPAs. All of the beers were good, our favorite being a session IPA called Tropic Thunder. Overall, Blue Tarp offered a solid line up of beers and is a pleasant place to spend a Saturday afternoon.
